Trying to gather opinions on learning from books rather than people

Interesting discussion — worth a reply from me. Over a fair few years, the early hour is worth more than the evening one. What I keep finding is how little teaching most people actually had. Those thinking about it should try an early hour before a late one. Good conversations in threads like this.
