Looking for off-the-grid secluded cabins without breaking the bank

Serious inquiry - are these off-the-grid nature retreats truly secret or just costly promotion? Visited to one last month that promoted to be "isolated" but there were loads of other people. Perhaps my expectations were too unrealistic?
